IA&A at Hillyer will present several fun-filled events throughout the evening including an art auction and exhibition of DMV artists, a jazz performance by the Kweku Sumbry Trio, art poetry, and music by DC’s very own State of Flow, and a Sip, Print, and Collect activity to round out the night.
6 to 7 PM: Auction on the Alley
As a common thread throughout the evening, visitors will have an opportunity to participate in an auction and enjoy three galleries of art by some of the leading artists in the DMV area. Visitors can also meet the artists in person. To learn more visit Auction on the Alley.
7 to 8:30 PM: Kweku Sumbry Trio
Kweku Sumbry is a D.C-born multi-percussionist who brings a transformative sound to the global stage. Expertly navigating the space between the djembe orchestra and the modern drum set, Kweku’s artistry is rooted in West African tradition and fueled by a restless, forward-thinking energy.
Currently touring with the Immanuel Wilkins Quartet (Blue Note Records) and the Charles Lloyd Sky Quartet, Kweku has established himself as a vital voice in the new jazz vanguard. His resume includes world tours and collaborations with heavyweights like Ambrose Akinmusire and Meshell Ndegeocello. Whether performing at the Village Vanguard or studying traditions in Ghana and Brazil, Kweku remains dedicated to building cultural bridges through rhythm and sound.
8:45 to 10:15 pm: State of Flow: Poetry, Music, Mindfulness
State of Flow, presented by Luna Corbetta and Derran Eaddy, offers an interactive poetry and music experience that invites participants to drift and flow like the churn of a rolling wave. SOF blends international voices and universal songs with community storytelling that encourages art appreciation as a prelude to collecting.
10:30 pm to 12 am: Sip, Print, and Collect
The night will culminate in an evening of cocktails and printmaking inspired by many of the works of art on view throughout the art auction. The activity will encourage participants to establish an intimate connection with the art on view, followed by an opportunity to place a bid in the auction for awards and prizes.
